KWILS complies with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including the Australian Privacy Principles, as well as the Legal Profession Act 2006 (NT) and other relevant legislation. Our privacy and data practices reflect our commitment to trauma-informed care, legal professionalism and respect.

KWILS collects personal information directly from you when you:
- Contact us via our website, phone, email or in person.
- Subscribe to our newsletters or updates.
- Access legal, community legal education or advocacy services.
We collect only the information necessary to provide and improve our services, communicate with you, and meet our legal and professional obligations.

Use and disclosure of information
The information you provide is used only by KWILS for legitimate business and service delivery purposes. We will never sell or disclose your personal information to third parties unless:

Confidential information shared through our legal practice, recruitment processes, feedback mechanisms, or internal communications is managed in accordance with privacy legislation and KWILS’ internal policies.

KWILS is committed to ensuring that your information is secure. We have implemented appropriate physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard personal data from unauthorised access, misuse or disclosure.
- Client and organisational data are stored securely in Australian-based cloud systems compliant with Australian privacy and data protection standards.
- Offshore storage providers will not be used unless authorised by the Principal Legal Officer (PLO) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and only when legal and privacy compliance can be guaranteed.
- Confidential documents (such as complaints and legal files) are securely retained for the required period (generally seven years) and then destroyed in accordance with privacy and data management policies.
- KWILS does not store credit card details on our servers.
Access to and correction of personal information
You have the right to request access to your personal information and to request corrections if it is inaccurate or incomplete. Access may be refused if it:
- Risks serious harm to someone’s health or safety.
- Unreasonably affects another person’s privacy.
- Relates to confidential legal negotiations or investigations.
In such cases, access may be provided through an agreed intermediary.
Privacy in feedback and communications
KWILS values transparency and continuous improvement. We will:
- Respect privacy when handling complaints, feedback or sensitive communications.
- Communicate outcomes within the constraints of privacy and safety.

Training and accountability
All KWILS team members receive training on privacy, data security and confidentiality obligations during induction and through regular refreshers. The PLO oversees compliance with legal and ethical standards for information management and reviews any sensitive use of descriptive or client data.
